Current Standings
Taipans (15-12), Crocodiles (17-10)

Heated rivals, the Cairns Taipans and Townsville Crocodiles meet in a Reptile Rumble, which could result in a mouth-watering playoff match-up between the two.

The Taipans, currently in fourth-place, can steal third spot from the Perth Wildcats with a win and set up the Sunshine Semi-Final.

The potential local derby matchup would be advantageous to both teams in terms of travel, while it would also force New Zealand and Perth into a strenuous long-distance clash spanning five time zones.

Cairns punched their ticket to the post-season last week when they outlasted the Wildcats in overtime.

Ayinde Ubaka and Ron Dorsey led the way with 20 points apiece, as the Taipans notched their third straight win and improved to 11-2 at home.

Townsville locked up second-place with a win over the Melbourne Tigers last round, with Michael Cedar's 14 points leading five Crocs in double figures.

The Crocs have been firming in recent weeks, winning their past three games, including a pair of wins against top-four opponents (Perth and New Zealand).

In the season series between these teams, the home side has won each of the previous three encounters.

The last time they met, the Crocs built a huge 43-24 first-half lead, before absorbing 50 points by Cairns in the second half to hold on for the win.

The Cairns faithful would like nothing more than to defeat their arch rival and then remain in North Queensland to have another crack at them in the play-offs.

On the flip side, the Crocs can send the Taipans packing to New Zealand to face the top-seeded Breakers next week.

With these teams sharing such a fantastic rivalry and so much riding on this game, the scene is set for a blockbuster in Cairns.
